I've heard of success with things like a small a mount of cotton or a tiny (tiny!) dab of hot glue or rubber cement. Alternatively, you can try to put something between the shaft and the stick to shim it, tighten up the fit. If you do want to fix it though, it's as easy as removing the top shell and swapping in new sticks, which you can get on amazon, or ebay, or wherever really. Honestly though, if you're not the type who is thrilled at the idea of opening the controller, this is a minor issue and can largely be ignored by most players. If you can do this, they're worn out, and should be replaced or at least shimmed. The result is that the stick can wiggle a little, and in fact if you grab it, you can move it up and down on the shaft. Normally, this should be a nice snug fit, but over time it can wear out.

The next thing I did was remove the gray plastic on the left side of the analog module ( saw on YouTube that fix), which did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except make the analog unstable (albeit minimal), I suggest skipping this step.

the anger turned into research, and last night I took my controller apart ( even though it's still under warranty, they were making me send the whole console back, so I said fuck that), and I started doing everything, from cleaning to blowing air everywhere on the analog. I have my Xbox for three months, maybe not even, so IMO this should be unacceptable. I'd call this stargazing, if I wasn't so pissed. In my case, the right analog stick used to move by itself, up.
